Day 68 - Siding and Progress

I stopped by late last night and again today.   My main reason was to measure the garage door for the installers (5 panels = 8' FYI) and measure the windows so I can order blinds for the 2 bedrooms.   The other bedrooms will have to wait a bit, but the master and our daughters room need blinds ASAP.

There seemed to be a slight variation in some of the window sizes (+/- 1/4 inch usually) but all were very close.   Also, the family room windows are huge (75") which we didn't realize when we first built.  Very cool and lets in tons of light.

Speaking of light -- I think all the electric is done.   One of the garage coach lights is out (bulb? wiring?) but everything else seems to be done.   Very cool to see it lit up last night.

Painters were finishing up some stuff today, doors, etc. and staining the rails.

And lastly we now have siding.  The color is beige, but it doesn't look yellow like the photos show it.  The first photo (front view) is probably the closest color.

Shutters should be up tonight, maybe the front door trim soon.

  2. It looks like the guy in the first picture is not sure that he wants his picture taken. I liked the color of the siding when I saw it earlier today.

    1. I liked it too. Honestly my brain had shut off, plus I was chasing a 2 year old around the model during selections, soI basically let my wife pick the siding, shutters, and front door colors with no input or objections. Our tastes are similar enough and I'm glad I like what she picked. I think the lighter siding has a good contrast with the darker brick. The shutters are brown and the front door is black, so we'll see what that all looks like later this week.

  3. I didn't realize the family room windows were that big either! I love learning this stuff from your blog! So glad you are farther along in the process than I am!

    1. I will try to get a good one the next time I am out there. There isn't much exciting on the other side though. Gas meter, electric meter, eventual satellite dish...

    2. That's where we plan on putting our hot tub one day :)

That is the only one I have so far I think. I will take a wide angle of the whole back tomorrow if I can get out there.

    4. Thanks for the link to that pic! We're building the same model, but with the 4' bump-out on the first floor. On the side where your slider is, we will only have a single glass door, which will go out to a dog yard. On the other wall opposite that door, we will have a slider, which will lead out to a deck and side yard, connecting to the driveway area. Our lot is 1/2 acre, but the backyard is not very deep, so we will mostly have to utilize the side yards. I'm loving watching your progress and I can't wait to see more pics!!!

  5. Stuart mentions in his blog that the windows are tinted for energy efficiency. Is that the case in your house too?

    1. yes, they are. You can tell when you are outside, but it is subtle. More visible from across the street then right in front also. One of our bedroom windows was not the right kind, and the PM noticed/replaced it early on. This is part of RH's overall efficiency program. I'm not sure if it will help the bills or not though.
I am more excited about the 3 zone system with a thermostat on each level and each with their own schedule. I think adding our media room bumped our sq ft. over 4k, which means RH had to include the zone system. Best part is the zone system cost offset the cost of the media room (or so I tried to convince my wife).

    2. We don't get the 3-zone system :( We didn't finish the media room because we plan on making it bigger by expanding it more into the storage area. That would have been an awesome feature.
